Collaboration in the health and education sectors between the government of Seychelles and the Rotary District 9220 are among the areas topping the list of cooperation between the two parties.

District Governor Dinesh Gajeelee made the statement yesterday following a courtesy call on President Wavel Ramkalawan at State House where various areas of cooperation were discussed.

He was accompanied by his wife, along with the president of the Rotary Club of Victoria (District 9220) Angele Low-Sauzier, president of the Rotary Club of Coco de Mer Lucile de Comarmond, president of the Rotaract Club of Mahé Brigitte Gbilimou, along with past district governors.

Mr Gajeelee’s visit is in line with the organistaion’s protocol whereby once a year the District Governor makes an official visit to each club in the District.

This allows the Governor to communicate with the club members, be a useful counselor to further the object of Rotary among the clubs in the District and to assist those clubs that may need some guidance

It is also to motivate Rotarians to participate in service activities to strengthen the

programmes of Rotary, while it also brings attention to important Rotary issues as they pertain to both the Rotary International and District levels, while also recognising the contributions of Rotarians in the club.

The setting up of an eye camp for free cataract surgery and other possible health-related assistance were the main topics of discussions.

Being a Mauritian, Mr Gajeelee said yesterday’s discussion also touched the economy of our two sister-countries vis-à-vis the ongoing global situation and also on possible cooperation and exchanges.

It is to note that earlier during the year, Seychelles welcomed Rotary International, president for 2021-22 Shekhar Mehta, the first ever visit by a president of Rotary International in the 53 years since the existence of Rotary Clubs in the country.

The Rotary District 9220 is made up of the Comoros, Seychelles, Djibouti, Madagascar, Mauritius-Rodrigues, Mayotte and Reunion, and Mr Gajeelee has been occupying the post of Governor since July 1, 2021.
