FPAC meets with auditor general to kick off work plan for 2022 |11 April 2022
The Finance and Public Accounts Committee (FPAC), chaired by the leader of the opposition, Hon. Sebastien Pillay, recently met with the auditor general, Gamini Herath.
The FPAC focused on obtaining an update from Mr Herath on the current undergoing audits, such as the FA4JR, the Covid-19 Relief Fund Scheme and other areas concerning public finance management.
In addition to providing updates on pending reports regarding FA4JR and Covid-19 Fund, Mr Herath also provided the members with a scope on the recently submitted report of the ‘Outsourcing and Management of the Cemetery and Burial Services’.
The FPAC remains committed to also ensure that the public is kept informed of matters which the committee has taken into consideration, plans to carry out hearings and meetings in public, in other words live on air. This also includes carrying out some external visits to have oversight over some projects that are completed and in the process.
The FPAC forged its work plan going forward to ensure it continues maintaining effective oversight on all matters relating to public funds.
The public hearings that are being planned to take place at the end of April will be based on the audit findings of the report of the auditor general for the year 2020.
Other members of the committee present in the meeting were vice-chairperson Terence Mondon, Hon. Richard Labrosse, Hon. Georges Romain, Hon. Conrad Gabriel and Hon. Sandy Arissol.
