Netball, volleyball federations receive equipment from Socga |07 April 2022
The Seychelles Netball Association and Seychelles Volleyball Federation have received from the Seychelles Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association uniforms and other equipment purchased from the grants offered to them by the local Olympic body.
It was the president of the Seychelles Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (Socga), Antonio Gopal, who presented the donations to the chairperson of the Seychelles Netball Association (SNA), Dorothy Isidore and chairman of the Seychelles Volleyball Federation (SVF) Ronald Wong in a short ceremony held on Monday afternoon at the Olympic House, Roche Caïman. Present were other representatives of Socga and the two sports bodies.
The Seychelles Netball Association has purchased six sets of 12 colourful uniforms to be distributed among the six registered teams taking part in the national league. The uniforms have cost US $3,500 including other expenses.
On the part of the association, Ms Isidore thanked Socga for the grant and stated that the colourful uniforms will perhaps encourage young girls to join the sport as some fresh legs are needed for the improvement of the sport.
The Seychelles Volleyball Federation has on its part purchased two practice nets, two official game nets, 23 of the latest Mikasa balls, two manual scoreboards and a digital pressure gauge at a cost of US $3700 including of other expenses.
SVF chairman Ronald Wong stated that due to Covid-19, the federation had not been assisted with funds from government for over three years and the reserves they had has all been used up for other programmes. He noted that the purchase of the equipment has come at an opportune time taking into account that they are about to start the volleyball season in two weeks’ time. He thanked Sogca for continuing to assist the federation.
Mr Gopal said it is always a pleasure for Sogca to assist associations and federations with grants obtained from the International Olympic Solidarity for the development of sports in the country.
