New Portuguese ambassador to Seychelles accredited

Maritime security, mainly the intervention of the European Union Naval Force, along with the strategic position of Seychelles in combating illegal, activities, including drug trafficking, are among the common interests of bilateral cooperation between Seychelles and Portugal.

The new Portuguese ambassador to Seychelles António Costa Moura – the 10th – made the statement yesterday, after presenting his credentials to President Ramkalawan at State House, where they engaged in discussion of common interest to the bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Top of the common agenda was the opportunity for Seychelles to participate at the highest level of the 2022 United Nations Ocean Conference scheduled to take place in Lisbon, Portugal in June, under the theme ‘Scaling up ocean action based on science and innovation for the implementation of Goal 14: Stocktaking, partnerships and solutions’.

They equally exchanged views on matters relating to renewable energy, where possibilities exist for Portugal to share its vast experiences in the area with Seychelles, while the subject of the blue economy and sustainable tourism were also included in the discussion.

Ambassador Moura who is based in Maputo, Mozambique also paid a courtesy call on Vice-President Ahmed Afif.

During his stay in the country, he will also call on other local dignitaries, including Speaker of the National Assembly Roger Mancienne, Designated Minister Jean-François Ferrari, among others.
