President hails ‘strong partnership’ between Seychelles and the EU |18 February 2022
While visiting the embassy of Seychelles in Brussels, President Wavel Ramkalawan met with the European Union (EU) head of Southern Africa and Indian Ocean, Ambassador Alessandro Mariani and the EU ambassador to Seychelles, Vincent Degert.
Both ambassadors have been working in close collaboration with the Seychelles embassy in Brussels to ensure critical matters related to Seychelles are effectively monitored.
The meeting was an opportunity for President Ramkalawan to personally convey the country’s appreciation for their support.
“First and foremost, I would like on behalf of the government and the people of Seychelles express our appreciation for the strong partnership that exist between Seychelles and the EU. Undoubtedly, this has been due to your engagement and sincere commitment in strengthening our collaboration. We look forward to continue enhancing this collaboration particularly in our efforts in making our voices heard on critical small island developing states’ priorities,” said President Ramkalawan.
The EU ambassadors in return congratulated President Ramkalawan on his leadership and for not only steering priorities of Seychelles but also advancing agendas for the African continent at various high-level international forums recently, such as the African Union and the One Ocean Summit in Brest, France and now at the EU-AU Summit in Brussels. Ambassador Mariani and Ambassador Degert reiterated their commitment to further collaborating with Seychelles and maintaining the existing excellent relations.
Also present at the meeting were the Minister for Foreign Affairs & Tourism, Sylvestre Radegonde and Seychelles’ ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium and the European Union, Beryl Samson.
