President Ramkalawan holds talks with US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, John Kerry |14 February 2022
On the margins of the ‘One Ocean’ Summit being held in Brest, France, the President of the Republic of Seychelles, Wavel Ramkalawan, on Friday held discussions with the United States Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, John Kerry.
Mr Kerry commended and expressed deep appreciation to Seychelles for its efforts to make the voice of small island developing nations heard and for leading key climate change initiatives on various international platforms.
He acknowledged the significant contributions of Seychelles despite its size and limited resources.
President Ramkalawan, through Mr Kerry, conveyed the appreciation of the people of Seychelles to the United States government for its continuous support throughout the years. The meeting was an opportunity to review existing main areas of cooperation while exploring new possibilities of collaboration between Seychelles and the United States can be enhanced. Maritime security was top on the agenda, with both leaders reaffirming that unless natural resources are protected, mitigation of climate change will remain a major issue.
“Seychelles and the United States already share good relations and this meeting today further consolidates our existing excellent ties. Seychelles looks forward to further enhancing our relations in various areas of cooperation,” said President Ramkalawan.
