‘A man of unimpeachable integrity and honesty’
“Our nation, today, mourns the passing of Joseph Belmont, affectionately known and remembered fondly by us all as Joe.
“Joe was a man of unimpeachable integrity and honesty, a patriot and an exemplary public servant. From humble beginnings, through sheer force of character, hard work, selfless commitment and utter devotion to his country, Joe worked his way up to become Vice- President of our country.
“Joe was above all a friend, a colleague. I had the good fortune and privilege of working with him for many years in Cabinet and, subsequently, as my Vice-President. My colleagues and I valued his advice and composure. In everything he did, Joe was always thorough and meticulous, putting country and others before self, with kindness and a profound sense of humility.
“We pay tribute to Joe and honour his memory and legacy. He shall be remembered for his contribution to the people of Seychelles, for his integrity, his principles and his moral rectitude.
“I offer my deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to Christianne, his children, Joe’s family, relatives and loved ones and numerous friends, united in grief as we all are on this great loss.”
