Community transmission continues |30 October 2021

As at yesterday there were a total 209 active Covid-19 cases in Seychelles, bringing the total number of cumulative cases to 22,177.

Of the active cases, the majority, 193, are distributed on Mahé, 11 on Praslin, four on La Digue, and one on another island.

According to a communiqué from the Ministry of Health, the positivity rate remains at just under around 4 percent, with the seven-day moving average at just below 20 over the past few days. At present, community transmission continues with all districts reporting cases.

Up until October 28, 100 percent of the adult population had received their first vaccination dose, and 96 percent had completed both doses. With the latest phase in the ongoing national immunisation campaign, at least 65 percent of the adolescent population has been administered the first dose of the Pfizer jab, approved for the population, estimated to be 8,235 based on school data. Thus far, 53 percent of the population, representing 4,425 adolescents, have received both vaccine doses.

As such, a total of 81,162 persons, representing 82 percent of the total population of 99,202 had already been administered a first vaccine dose. Seventy-seven percent, 76,468, have received both doses of vaccines.

The vaccination campaign will be ongoing over the coming week with the administering of both Pfizer and Sinopharm jabs at different locations. The Pfizer vaccine is available as both first and second doses, and as a booster third dose for vaccinated persons. All Seychellois citizens aged 12 and above, who have never been vaccinated against Covid-19 receive their first jab, while the booster dose is available for all Seychellois citizens and residents aged 25 and above, and who received their second Covid-19 vaccine on or before May 30, 2021, regardless of the brand of the initial vaccine.

The Pfizer vaccine is to be administered at five facilities over the coming week. The International Conference Centre of Seychelles (ICCS) will be operational between Tuesday November 2 to Friday November 5, 2021 from 8am to 3pm, and from 8am to 12pm on Saturday November 6. The Anse Royale health centre is to operate from Tuesday 2 to Friday 5, also between 8am to 3pm, while the Beau Vallon health centre is to operate for only two days, namely Thursday November 4 and the following day. La Digue and Praslin will also be covered during the week, with the Logan Hospital on La Digue operational on Friday November 5, while Praslin will see vaccinations on Tuesday November 2, at the Grand Anse Praslin health centre.

Similarly, the Sinopharm jab is available both as a first and second dose, as well as a booster shot. All residents above 18 years who are yet to be vaccinated against Covid-19 can get their first dose, while the booster dose is advised for persons who have taken only two doses of Sinopharm on or before July 31, 2021.

The Sinopharm vaccine is to be administered at one facility only on Mahé, on La Digue and on Praslin. Between Tuesday November 2 and Friday November 5, health workers will be at the Mont Fleuri community centre to administer the jabs, while residents on Praslin will have Wednesday November 3 to get theirs, between 8am and 3pm. Sinopharm vaccinations will be available at Logan Hospital on Friday November 5.

Please bring ID card/passport and vaccination card for first/second doses when attending the vaccination centre.
