Historian Tony Mathiot guiding First Lady Ahmed on a tour of the National Museum of History
The Maldivian First Lady, Fazna Ahmed, who is accompanying her husband on his first State visit to Seychelles, yesterday visited the National Museum of History, the Perseverance secondary school and the department of Foreign Affairs.
At the National Museum of History she was welcomed by a group of crèche children and was then given a tour of the museum by Seychellois historian Tony Mathiot.
Her next stop was at the Perseverance secondary school where she was again greeted by the students of the school. She was presented with a bouquet of flowers and a souvenir photograph of an aerial shot of the school.
She then was guided on a tour of the school alongside the Minister for Education and Human Resource Development Jeanne Simeon and the principal secretary for primary and secondary schools.
“It was very heart-warming for me to be welcomed by all the students when I walked into the school. As a former teacher I feel very much at home when I’m inside a school,” said the First Lady.
She added that the school incorporates all the aspects of a productive environment for a very distinct learning experience for all the students.
The state visit continued to the department of Foreign Affairs where First Lady Ahmed met a group of students going for further studies abroad on the scholarship scheme sponsored by the government.
She discussed with the students about their plans once enrolled in their universities as well as their field of studies.
“I finished my A-levels in 2015 and afterwards I worked for three years before deciding to finally pursue my bachelors in business administration,” said Laura Boniface. She will be leaving the country in a couple of weeks to study in Azerbaijan.
First Lady Fazna Ahmed and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will today visit the Botanical Garden and the Mission Lodge.
