Plaisance primary’s high achievers from P6 rewarded |28 August 2021
The high achievers from P6 of Plaisance school were rewarded yesterday in a graduation ceremony at the school.
The outstanding performer went to Joanna Gabriel and the second best performer went to Marco Agrippine.
The other students who managed to score three ‘A’s in the P6 National Exams of 2020 are Shawn Germaine, Elly Henderson, Reuben Madeleine, Netane Joubert and Maria Cadeau.
The young Johanna Gabriel thanked the government of Seychelles for giving them access to free education.
“Many children around the world do not have this opportunity. Sadly some of us do not always fully appreciate the value of learning and how fortunate we are. To these students, I say, ‘let us learn to make the most of the opportunities we are given in life’. Today is a proud moment not only for me, but for all of us here. I cannot pretend and say that this was an easy journey, because it wasn’t, but now our efforts and sacrifices have finally paid off.”
The head teacher of the school, Therese Athanase, congratulated the students for their outstanding performances and shared that “from the 2020 cohort, the school recorded a total of 35 ‘A’s including 1 A*. It is imperative to note that the excellent results have not happened overnight, it has been hard work from dedicated teachers from crèche to primary 6 and the pupils themselves, not forgetting their devoted parents who had also supported them throughout their journey. However it is important to note that the 7 students will feature on the school’s Hall of Fame for their exceptional performances.”
Mrs Athanase encouraged the students, who are now in S1, and noted that “today starts a new milestone in your young life, seize the great opportunity that you are given to excel in your studies. Aim for greater heights – the sky is the limit!”
The event concluded with the signing of the Contractual Obligation Regulation 2019 by the head teacher, the council chairman, one parent and a child.
“This award presentation that we are celebrating today is proof of the dedication and hard work of pupils, parents, teachers, and the school leadership in education. It is therefore right for all parties mentioned to seal their commitment through the signing of the contractual obligation. This will ensure that we all take our roles and responsibilities to promote our theme, ‘Education a Shared Responsibility’,” Mrs Athanase said.
The event was attended by members of the National Assembly Richard Labrosse and Jany Letourdie, representative of Audrey Vidot, representative of the Ministry of Education Merna Eulentin, the Council chairperson Terry Servina, members of the Rotary Club of Victoria, parents, teachers and some students.
