Prison service week relaunched |20 August 2021
The Seychelles Prison Service will in the month of September 2021 relaunch its prison service week, holding what will now be an annual event from September 6 to 10 each year.
The event will provide an opportunity to not only recognise staff and the work performed but also other initiatives underway and in support of rehabilitation of inmates.
The service week will be under the theme ‘Working together towards success’.
Previously a fixture within the prison service’s calendar of events, the last event was held on February 3, 2009 under Superintendent of Prisons, Gelage Hoareau. The return of prison service week will now be observed each September and will serve as a key milestone for the service each year going forward.
The main feature for the week will be a recognition of staff and their professional service to date. Further a rededication mass for the prison patron saint St Adrian, with his feast day being September 8, staff promotion, community service activities, interaction with inmates and their families, sports activities within Montagne Posée itself, culminating with a special mass of Thanksgiving at St Famille Church at Grande Anse, Mahé.
“For the past several years we have been working to not only improve the image of the Seychelles Prison Service but more importantly how we deliver our work and how we interact with those sentenced by court to our care. The work is arduous as many who are convicted face chronic medical issues and addictions, which certainly complicates our work. Despite this, we remain committed to improving our service and delivery of work not because it is expected but because it is needed. It has been our pleasure for the past four years to present the service before the public at our observation of Nelson Mandela Day. Now with the return of the service week we are aiming higher to continue delivering for families, our community and for the country,” Raymond St Ange, Superintendent of Seychelles Prison Service, said.
