Marine Conservation Society Seychelles launches community-based cetacean monitoring project
A new marine research project led by local cetacean experts from the Marine Conservation Society Seychelles and the University of Seychelles is being launched this month to improve understanding of whales and dolphins, collectively known as cetaceans, found in Seychelles waters.
The project, supported by Seychelles Conservation and Climate Adaptation Trust’s Blue Grants Fund-9, aims to strengthen baseline information on cetaceans by documenting which species are present locally, where they are most frequently observed, and whether populations are resident or migratory. This information is essential for informing future conservation planning and management efforts.
