Foreign vessel capsizes off Ile De Romainville

A vessel has capsized in the vicinity of Île de Romainville, with one person still unaccounted for, according to a communique from the Seychelles Police department.

According to the police, they received the initial alert for assistance at around 4pm.

The boat, identified as the Serdal, a Comorian-flagged landing craft, had 11 crew members comprising Indonesian and Nepalese nationals. Ten were rescued including the captain who was rushed to the Seychelles Hospital for emergency medical care, while one remained missing and was presumed trapped inside the sunken vessel.

A joint press release from the Seychelles Ports Authority (SPA) and the Seychelles Maritime Safety Authority (SMSA) late yesterday confirmed that the Serdal, measuring 50 metres in length with a 1.5-metre draft, was anchored approximately 500 metres east of Île de Romainville, Port Victoria.
