Cricket: Grand Finale for Division One and Two

Lakstars and Vijay Warriors the winners

The Seychelles Cricket association hosted the grand finale for division one and two knock-out tournament last Saturday at the Perseverance playing ground where Lakstars and Vijay Warriors emerged as the grand winners in their respective divisions.

In the morning match – Division Two final – Vijay Warriors were victorious by seven wickets over Royal Bengaluru to be crowned champions.                                                                                                                                                                 

Winning the toss, Royal Bengaluru opted to bat first, while they kept losing their wickets at regular intervals after losing both their openers.

The Vijay's bowlers kept the pressure going and managed to get all 10 wickets in 18.3 overs.

Royal Bengaluru's Ajay Maurya was the main contributor with 26 runs, while Vijay's Lalji Hirani grabbed four wickets, with Kaushal Patel three wickets, Rocket two wickets and Aman one wicket for their team.

Vijay’s Aman Dixit gave his team a solid start, scoring 52 runs in just 24 balls.

Hasmukh Dangar scored 22 runs and Lalji Hirani finished with 24 runs in only four balls.

Vijay achieved the run chase in 11.4 overs (117 runs).

Royal Bengaluru’s Avinash took two wickets, while Kunder picked one wicket.                                                                                                         

Lalji Hirani was awarded the player of the match for his all-round performance.

The afternoon session featured the Division One final between the two unbeaten teams Lakstars and Grankaz Kings.

Winning the toss, Lakstars chose to bat first.

Opening the innings Thiwanka of Lakstars had a sparkling start with the bat and score 73(55) which was supported by mid order batsman Harsha who scored an unbeaten 49(25), helping Lakstars to post a score of 168/6 at the end of 20 overs.

Shanmugam Tharmenthiran was the outstanding bowler for Grankaz Kings, picking three wickets.

While chasing the target of 169 runs, opening batsmen Islam 59(30) and Tim Horpinitch 31(35) gave a promising start with a partnership of 79 for the first wicket.

But, the bowlers of Lakstars, Thiwanka and Sadam Mohammed, each grabbed three wickets which collapsed the batting order of Grankaz Kings, eventually ending up with a maximum score of 152/8 at the end of 20 overs.

Lakstars won the match by 16 runs and eventually became the SCA Division One Champions Knockout tournament 2025.

Thiwanka Rajapaksa was awarded as the player of the match for his phenomenal all-round performance.

The match was followed by the prize giving ceremony.
