SPGA hosts training to strengthen marine conservation efforts
The Seychelles Parks and Gardens Authority on Saturday hosted a key training session aimed at enhancing the management and protection of Seychelles’ marine protected areas.
The event at the authority’s headquarters at Ile du Port, brought together experts from the Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA) and Advanced Conservation Strategies (ACS).
The training session forms part of an ongoing initiative under the Hifadhi Blu Programme, designed to improve marine conservation across the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) region. The workshop is a crucial component of the project titled ‘Developing and Strengthening Data Management for Improved and Effective MPA Governance’, a three-year effort aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of marine protected areas (MPAs) in Seychelles and the wider region. Funded through the Hifadhi Blu Programme, the project focuses on three key objectives: building institutional capacity, procuring technical equipment and software, and establishing regional communication networks.
