Six people have received their Seychellois citizenship after meeting the requirements and completing the citizenship process.

They received their documents yesterday during the third oath of allegiance ceremony hosted by the Immigration & Civil Status department at the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Addressing the new Seychellois citizens, the Minister for Internal Affairs, Errol Fonseka, said: “Through the pledge you have just made to protect and defend the constitution, you have made a solemn promise of loyalty to Seychelles, to your new compatriots and to the values that we hold dear; such as the goodwill and compassion which enable us to reach out to others in need, or our sense of ‘joie de vivre’ which reverberates in our local culture and tradition.”

He also noted how we, as Seychellois, are compassionate and stand in solidarity through the disasters that happened last week.

The minister continued by saying, “despite your various backgrounds and origins, you are being called upon to be ambassadors of your new country. Make good use of your knowledge and experience to promote Seychelles, to serve its interests and participate actively towards its development through volunteering during times of need and contributing towards the well-being of your respective communities as a law-abiding citizen”.

The ceremony was also attended by the principal secretary of the Immigration & Civil Status department, Alain Volcère, who led the group in taking the oath of allegiance.

The six who received citizenship yesterday are Shanthi Baskar (India), Marie Sybille Bootshah Zialor (Mauritius), Whitney Precious Victor (Kenya), Maithili Chetty (India), Marisa Eliane Kraft (Kenya) and Desire Pascale Nicole (Mauritius).
