Seychelles' Remire island to offer exclusive 'rent an island' experience |31 August 2023
The Islands Development Company has unveiled an ambitious plan to develop a luxury villa on Remire Island, a small oval-shaped piece of paradise spanning 27 hectares.
The venture will be marketed and operate as a 'rent an island' concept, allowing discerning travellers to experience the ultimate private getaway surrounded by pristine natural beauty.
Chief executive of the Islands Development Company (IDC), Glenny Savy noted that the island, located 245 kilometers southwest of Victoria, is the ideal canvas for the venture, boasting serene landscapes surrounded by crystal-clear waters. Remire also has a large number of seabirds, and is a popular nesting site for hawksbills and green turtles.
The idea of private island rentals is not new, with exclusive destinations like Calivigny Island in the Caribbean and Kokomo Island in Fiji offering visitors the opportunity to bask in unparalleled seclusion and comfort. IDC's decision to embrace private island tourism is expected to not only enhance Seychelles' international allure, but also elevate its tourism marketing strategy to new heights.
"I think that it would be beneficial to Seychelles to have in its international marketing strategy, an island which can offer such. It improves popularity and brings the marketing to another level," Mr Savy stated, underlining the strategic significance of the move.
Currently, Remire Island is home to around 15 IDC staff members who oversee its maintenance and upkeep. With the addition of a luxurious villa designed to cater to the needs of an exclusive clientèle, a further 10 to 12 staff will join the others.
The villa's potential to host around 10 to 12 guests per stay ensures an intimate and personalised experience, a perfect fit for those seeking a high-end, secluded holiday.
Walking the entire circumference of Remire island is a leisurely 20-minute stroll. The compact size contributes to the island's sense of exclusivity, ensuring that guests can enjoy privacy.
IDC's ambitious plans expect to transform Seychelles' tourism landscape. The introduction of the 'rent an island' concept not only diversifies the country's tourism offerings but also establishes it as a contender in the competitive luxury travel market.
