Golf - Kevin Hermitte wins third John Richardson’s Memorial tournament

Club captain Ellenberger with his gift after his extraordinary achievement of a hole in one

Kevin Hermitte is the winner of the third John Richardson’s Memorial golf tournament played last Saturday at the Seychelles Golf Club.

This was the third John Richardson’s Memorial tournament organised by members of his family. Mr Richardson was a pioneer member of the club as he had led the golf club as a past captain and president and also paved the way to many changes including to the current club’s constitution.

He will always be remembered at the Seychelles Golf Club (SGC).

In total, 35 members took part in the event on Saturday to get their hands on the beautiful floating trophy designed by the family. A Stableford format was used and it was based on a points system with the players’ handicap coming into play and the member with the most points win.

After the first nine holes, Andre Morin had opened with 22 points, a few others were close on his heals with 21 points and 20 points but another set of nine holes had to be played.

Andre Morin kept his composure and set the clubhouse lead with 39 points for quite a while until the group of Prakash Chetty including Kevin Hermitte came in to equal the score of 39 points. Because both Kevin and Prakash had better back nine scores, Andre had to settle for third place spot, Prakash was second, leaving Kevin Hermitte as the winner of the third John Richardson’s Memorial.

Pedro Junca was fourth with 38 points. Other prizes included nearest to the pin in 2 on hole 11 won by Jerry Jean-Baptiste, most golf by Peter Moncherry and two extra prizes were donated by Club Liberte and those were won by William Weidner and Kevin Hermitte.

There was also an extraordinary achievement - a hole in one - by newly elected club captain Alex Ellenberger on par 3 hole 16.

Widow of John Richardson, his son and two daughters were present to hand out the prizes and acknowledged that this will be a continuous event for many more years and that hopefully next year the family members would also take part in the event.
