Fondasyon Kiltirel Seselwa (FKS) has launched the 2nd Konkour Sanson Tradisyonnel – a music reality competition television series which is about recognising and in a way rewarding the most creative young Seychellois who believes and feels part of their ancestors, its culture and music.

The members of FKS made this announcement yesterday at the National Arts Council.

The FKS organising committee said the ‘Konkour’ will again feature music from different performers in a way to entertain, educate and inform the public of our culture; spread the cultural aspects of our music to the young generation through our traditional music and art and cultivate creativity and innovation in the youth through talent displays as well as provide alternative means of leisure to the youth who would otherwise opt for more self-destructive and unhealthy leisure activities.

After the 1st edition which was held in 2022 where they received 42 entries, Ambassador Patrick Victor, a member of FKS, noted that “it created an interest among the youth and even their parents. Many people started to follow us and every time we had workshops to empower the children, the parents and grandparents got involved. I am sure that next year we will have even more children, youth and adults participating!”

Another member of FKS, Jean Marc Volcy, shared that the foundation feels that there is a lack in the promotion of traditional music in Seychelles. “We are finding less and less of moutya, sokwe, romans, kanmtole and other forms of music that are originally considered as Creole music on the local media. FKS thinks it is a necessity to have this competition and have the youth come forward to learn and show their talents. This competition will also help in creating musicians.”

Modalities

‘Konkour sanson tradisyonnel’ is a solo singing competition for youth between the ages of 10 to 25 years old. The event will be separated into three categories: 10 to 14 years; 15 to 19 years and 20 to 25 years.

Interested participants will have to apply by filling a form and the closing date for registration is April 17.

All selected participants will be called for a meeting and the song should be delivered on time on a pen drive.

Only one participant in each category will be declared the winner and win a cash prize of R25,000.

Contestants are expected to dress appropriately and should not use obscene, offensive, sexual or inappropriate behaviour or gesture which are not in the spirit of the competition or do not meet FKS standard.

The semi-final will be held on August 12 and the Final will be on September 9.
