La Passe lose return match 2-4

La Passe are out of the Confederation of African Football (Caf) Confederation Cup playoff after losing their return leg match against Congolese side Diables Noirs from Brazzaville on a 2-4 score yesterday at the Stade Alphonse Massamba.

The La Digue-based side have bowed out of the competition on a 2-6 aggregate score after also losing their ‘home match’ on a 0-2 score at the Côte d’Or Sports Complex in Mauritius since the national stadium, Stad Linite, is not certified for international matches.

Seychelles champions La Passe won by walk-over against Volcan of the Comoros in the first preliminary round before being mauled 15-1 on aggregate by South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundown in the second preliminary round of the Caf Champions League.

They earned the right to fight on in the Caf Confederation Cup after emerging as one of the 16 teams who lost their second preliminary round Caf Champions League clash.

The Caf competition format stipulates that all the 16 losers of the Champions League second preliminary round meet the winners of the Confederation Cup second preliminary round in playoff matches for places in the Confederation Cup group stage.

In the first preliminary round, La Passe lost 0-1 against the Volcan Club de Moroni at the Omnisports Stadium in Malouzini, the Comoros, with Danny scoring in the 15th minute of the encounter on Saturday September 10. La Passe then travelled to Mauritius to ‘host’ the Comorians who failed to make it to Mauritius, forcing Caf to cancel the match.
