Air Seychelles’ fate will be decided on Monday June 14

The Cabinet of ministers will be holding an extraordinary meeting on Monday June 14 to discuss the performance of Air Seychelles in order to take a position on the way forward.

This is in line with the government’s earlier announcement that it will assess the performance of the national carrier before it takes a final decision on its future.

The decision to have the extraordinary meeting follows recent developments in the airline industry and also an assessment of the performance of the carrier since the beginning of the year to date.

To note, earlier this year, during his state-of-the-nation address, President Wavel Ramkalawan, launched a national debate on the future of Air Seychelles. President Ramkalawan said the airline has to prove that it can survive on its own, as moving forward the government will not have the financial resources to sustain its operations.

In this year’s budget, the government allocated a sum of R133 million as subsidy, in which R103.724 million is meant as salary support.

In the meantime, decision in regards to any potential Air Seychelles restructuring will be made at the extraordinary meeting which the Cabinet of ministers will hold on Monday.
