UNODC programme coordinator calls on Vice-President Ahmed Afif |10 May 2021

Vice-President Ahmed Afif received the programme coordinator of the UNODC Global Maritime Crime Programme, Kaitlin Meredith, at State House on Thursday last week.

Ms Meredith is currently on a working visit in Seychelles together with the head of the UNODC Global Maritime Crime Programme, Alan Cole.

During their discussions, Ms Meredith emphasised the importance for Seychelles to have a National Submarine Cables Protection and Resilience Framework, which will detail the measures to protect our submarine cable network.

Seychelles could be the first country in the Indian Ocean region to develop a domestic framework for the protection and resilience of its submarine cables.

The vice-president thanked the UNODC for assisting Seychelles in developing a National Protection and Resilience Plan and expressed his appreciation for the national consultations that UNODC is conducting with local stakeholders.

Also present for the courtesy meeting was the principal secretary in the Department of Information and Communications Technology, Benjamin Choppy and the director general for Regional Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Steve Lalande.
