16-page Seychelles NATION in time of COVID-19 |17 April 2020

Since the coronavirus outbreak in the world, Seychelles NATION has been covering the impact of the highly infectious strain of coronavirus and its resulting disease, COVID-19 which the World Health Organisation has described as a pandemic.

This virus has reached Seychelles and the first positive case was registered on March 14 and since then 11 people have tested positive, although five have now recovered as their tests have returned negative lately.

Although the demand for our stories soared over the past weeks, there has been a huge drop in advertising as businesses – local and foreign – have decided to tighten spending due to the economic impact of COVID-19.

Since the print media (newspapers) are classified as critical services by the government, the management of the National Information Services Agency (Nisa) that produces the daily Seychelles NATION newspaper, has taken the decision to reduce the number of pages from 24 to 16 until further notice, instead of suspending publication.

Published six days a week – Monday to Saturday – the country’s oldest daily newspaper will still be sold at R10 a copy.

Readers can also subscribe to the Seychelles NATION App and make the most of the three-month promotion at R90.

For the time being, only Android mobile phone users can access the Seychelles NATION App.

The Nisa management counts on your understanding during these uncertain times and we also call on every one of us to follow the given guidelines and play our role to help the situation improve so that our lives get back to normal the soonest.
