Seychelles’ Panafricare Clinic attends Global Clinical & Care Coordination Forum

Dr. Todorovic, far right, during the forum in Hamburg, Germany

Locally-based ‘Panafricare Clinic’ was part of important discussions during a forum which took place in Hamburg, Germany, from November 11 – 13, 2019.

The forum included continuous discussions on Global Clinical & Care Coordination in the environment of new digital technologies.

In the following interview, Dr Miodrag Todorovic, founder of Panafricare Clinic, shares the knowledge he acquired at the forum, and his opinions of how these concepts are applicable in the context of Seychelles.

Seychelles NATION: Who organised the forum and who were the main attendees?

Dr Miodrag Todorovic: The organiser is the Global Clinic and Care Coordination Forum (GCCCF); fantastic panel of producers, policy makers, strategists, end users of medical digital techniques and all those who are involved in transformation care technologies, better clinical communication and collaboration, digitisation of hospitals, information-driven decisions in medicine, and preservation of the human touch in this digital revolution.

Attendees were mostly from European countries and some from the USA, including experts in this field from the German Ministry of Health, Paris Hospitals from France, international producers and strategists in this field.

We were invited by the organiser to represent the Panafricare Clinic from Seychelles, both with ideas and functional module, being in line with paperless hospitals and digitisation of medicine from the general practice to the top specialties.

Seychelles NATION: What is the importance of such a forum?

Dr Miodrag Todorovic: Very exciting atmosphere in exchanging the knowledge, practices, strategies and novelties in this field which are rapidly growing and are going to transform the medicine and health sector in general. It was a forum discussion after a presentation of the same roads ahead from different angles, but all aiming at digital medicine.

Seychelles NATION: How has the forum benefited you, how will it benefit your clinic and how will it benefit the people of Seychelles?

Dr Miodrag Todorovic: We were extremely proud to find out that we were on the right track in transforming the approach in general or family medicine, or what is supposed to be the primary health model.

We are already practicing for seven years a paperless clinic with the newest approach in the clinical practice of patient centered care, with digital medicine, CLIA waved equipment, Electronic Patients Records, digital quality control and system correction, etc.

We know now that embarking on this transformation for patients’ care in Seychelles is the first in the sector and that our pioneer work is already praised by our patients.

Seychelles NATION: Was there anything in the forum that you found particularly noteworthy for the Seychelles population/our local health industry?

Dr Miodrag Todorovic: Yes we did. Excellent meetings are always enriching individuals and groups in attendance, and I always judge the quality of these forums by what I am able to “take home” from the meeting.

There was quite a lot this time in view of administrative approaches, legislation, policies and implementation in different environments which click ideas for your own practice or environment.

I was stressing upon in one of the discussions the fact that nursing in the health sector is also going to be revolutionary transformed by digitisation and digitalisation of the sector. It will contribute more to the status and practice work execution and change in the nurse practitioner role or job description.

Seychelles NATION: Was there anything you feel will be a concern/challenge for our local health industry?

Dr Miodrag Todorovic: Yes indeed. Training and education in this field will require long preparatory work before any implementation or correct implementation without improvisation. A uniform approach and introduction of new medical algorithms will make way to money saving in the health sector.

Millions of unnecessary blood tests that are done daily in the health sector are listed to be cut as the first step in money saving and economising people’s private and public funds.

A digital approach in the Panafricare Clinic and already used specific algorithms when it comes to the necessary laboratory tests and imaging for diagnosis, have improved our outcomes and contributed to efficient work in general, giving more time to dedicating to patients, for putting him/her and the family at the centre of our care.
