Seychelles marks International Day of Forests with call for protection and sustainability

“Let us continue to work together as government, communities, partners, and especially with our youth and children, to protect and rehabilitate our forests.”
These were the words of Minister for Environment, Climate, Energy and Natural Resources, Marie-May Jeremie, as she addressed attendees at the opening ceremony of the International Day of Forests 2026.
The event, held on Saturday at Le Ravin de Fond Ferdinand, was attended by Principal Minister and chairperson of the National Day Celebrations Committee Wallace Cosgrow, Minister for Local Government and Inner Islands Eveline Rose, members of the National Assembly for Grand Anse Praslin Hon. Alvin Grandcourt and for Baie Ste Anne Hon. Churchill Gill, along with senior government officials, committee members, elders, and students from Praslin and La Digue.
