Seychelles NATION’s 45-year history recounted |26 June 2021
On June 29, Seychelles will not only celebrate 45 years of nationhood, the day it gained its independence from Great Britain.
On the day the Union Jack was lowered and the flag of the first Seychellois republic hoisted for the first time 45 years ago, Seychelles’ only daily newspaper at that time gained a new identity.
The name changed from Seychelles Bulletin to NATION. The word Seychelles was later added to the name making it Seychelles NATION on January 4, 1984, to differentiate it from other newspapers in the African region with the same name.
Forty-five years down the lane, Seychelles NATION remains a key player in both the local newspaper industry and the gathering and dissemination of factual information to the public at large with the aim of informing, entertaining and educating them.
Four decades and a half is a long time and we invite those of you who don’t know the history of the newspaper to buy a copy of our special issue which will come out on Monday June 28, 2021.
