Yachting- Gold for Allan Julie in Laser Standard class |27 July 2019
It came as no big surprise that veteran sailor Allan Julie is the gold medallist in the Laser Standard class at the 10th Indian Ocean Islands Games in Mauritius.
Being on top during the whole regatta raced in the Grand Baie Yacht Club in the northern part of the country, Julie yesterday added another first place and runner-up finish to his previous five first places, three second places and two fourth places, with one being discarded to end the 12-race series on 22 points.
Rodney Govinden finished second overall, winning the silver medal also with a final total of 22 points.
Thibeau Peyroutou of Reunion finished third overall on 36 points.
Seychelles’ other medals in yachting came courtesy of Dominique Labrosse in Laser 4.7 and Paul Morel in Laser Radial.
Labrosse won a bronze medal after finishing third overall on 42 points, while Morel garnered 37 points to finish third.
Brasse O’Brien of Mauritius was the grand winner in the Laser 4.7 with a total of 16 points, while the Laser Radial series was won by Christopher Bon of Mauritius whose grand total was 26 points.
The medals ceremony is slated for today.
