Basketball - Seychelles to play for bronze medal after heavy semifinal defeat |27 July 2019
The women’s basketball selection will try to win the bronze medal of the 10th Indian Ocean Islands Games today after losing their semifinal match 41-84 against Madagascar yesterday at the Phoenix Gymnasium in Mauritius.
In the third-place match today, the players of coach Michel Malbrook will play against hosts Mauritius who also their semifinal match 65-71 against Reunion in extra-time.
Seychelles were drawn in group A alongside Reunion and Mayotte and in their opening match the Seychellois players were humiliated by Reunion, losing 20-73, while in their second group match, they beat Mayotte 55-41.
Commenting on the semifinal loss, coach Malbrook said a lack of movement within their defence, along with a lot of turnovers were the main mistakes committed by his side yesterday.
He also added that in the last quarter he decided to rest key players as they want to win the third-place play-off match to end the competition with honour.
