Following success of ‘Sanzman’ Praslinois singer Joey shares new project

The cover of Joey’s single Sanzman

Releasing his first single entitled ‘Sanzman’ mid last year – a song whose powerful message and moral touched many hearts young and old and whose impact is still being felt – has left the young newcomer on the music scene spellbound but encouraged to push forward with new musical productions.

Joey Pouponneau, known simply as ‘Joey’ now aged only 20, has since the release of his popular Sanzman not been idle even though not much has been heard of him on the music scene.

He is currently working on a new project which he calls an ‘extended gospel play’ which is a musical piece centred around life’s journey and its numerous challenges being faced not only by him as a young adult but by everyone in general.

Speaking to Seychelles NATION recently about his new production, Joey explained that contrary to the lyrics of Sanzman which he was not the one who wrote, this time he has written the script for the play.

Additionally four artists are working with him on the project and they are MV, Fastidious, Cus Man and Danio Crea.

Altogether Joey says the play will comprise seven songs which has been written by different family members and friends as well as himself.

“No date has been confirmed for the release of the play yet but we are just taking our time to produce something good which would again leave a good impression on people,” Joey noted.

Joey went on to admit that after the release of Sanzman he received a lot of encouragement from various people to produce an album, something he says he is not ready to do yet.

“It will come in due time but I just feel I am not ready yet and I just want God to inspire me more, guide and lead me to do things right so this is why I do not want to rush with a new album,” the young singer and fervent member of the Pentecostal Church on Praslin said.

“But to tell you the truth, I was not really expecting the single to do so well and create so much impact on so many people but my aim was to spread the words of the gospel through the song as well as share my own life experiences, the lessons I learnt after realising that my disobedience led to a lot of bad actions also caused by peer pressure which only resulted in more misery, unhappiness until I realised that it is only me who could turn my life around and strengthen myself to be that different person. I was so tired of those bad things happening to me and with the support of my family, one day I decided enough was enough and I wanted to be a better person so I took it upon myself to be that better person. I am proud I decided to turn my life around and I really appreciate all the support and encouragement I received after my life story was recounted in the song Sanzman,” Joey said.

A maintenance assistant at the Lemuria Resort on Praslin, Joey says music is his past time for which he is very grateful as it is the means through which he feels inspired to do good things in his life.

“I just want to continue to be inspired and also want to inspire other young people so that they realise that whatever challenges they face and mistakes they make in their lives, including doing drugs and alcohol, God loves us all and will always help us pick ourselves up if we seek him out,” Joey concluded.
