SRC and Seychelles Intelligence Service sign MoU

Mr Hoareau and Mrs Herminie signing the MoU

The Seychelles Revenue Commission (SRC) and the Seychelles Intelligence Service (SIS) have cemented their working relationship through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

The signing took place on May 7, 2021 at the SRC headquarters at Maison Collet in Victoria.

Both the SIS and SRC are members on the National Anti-Money Laundering / Combating the Financing of Terrorism Committee (NAC) established in February 2019.

The MoU was signed by the respective heads of both institutions – Benediste Hoareau, the director general of SIS and Veronique Herminie, commissioner general of SRC.

Speaking after the signing, Mr Hoareau sadi: “By nature of the functions of the two parties, it is important to establish a good rapport and the necessary working relationship given the confidentiality needed to support intelligence gathering and investigations relating to the detection and prevention of serious offences including tax related offences.”

Mrs Herminie expressed the desire that this MoU “would escalate into improved overall compliance from the collaborative intelligence and investigative efforts for both Tax and Customs. The investigation teams from both entities have worked closely on a number of complex cases and the MoU will merely establish the framework for exchange of information to the extent permitted under the respective laws of each entity”.

As members of the NAC, both parties have a responsibility to fight and prevent financial and economic crimes.
