The state and private schools in Seychelles are to resume physical classes as from May 31, 2021, while students registered for international exams only will resume classes as from May 24, 2021.

The announcement was made by the principal secretary in the department of Education Services, Dr Odile de Commarmond, in a press interview yesterday afternoon at the Ministry of Education headquarters, Mont Fleuri.

Students who will be on the school compound as from May 24 will include those from S4 and S5 doing their IGCSEs and DELFs, second-year students from the School of Advanced Level Studies (Sals) and P6 students from the Independent School.

She said that all measures are being taken with regard to the guidelines in place to ensure the safety of the students against the spread of Covid-19.

She noted that initially physical schooling was supposed to resume on Monday 24, 2021, but after further consultation earlier this week with the Ministry of Health in regards to the current Covid-19 situation in the country, the ministry was advised to extend the schooling from home for another week.

She stated that the ministry held a virtual discussion on the matter with the head teachers from both state and private schools who welcomed the extended one week schooling from home.

Dr de Commarmond said that teachers will continue to make lesson provisions for students staying at home and she urged parents who have difficulty receiving the lessons, especially those provided online, to contact their respective schools for alternative arrangements to receive the lessons.

She said that the ministry will continue to be in contact with the Ministry of Health and it will be giving further details next week on the resumption of face to face teaching on May 31, 2021.
