Nasim Onezime v/s the Attorney General

Attorney Hoareau

The first hearing regarding the case of Nasim Onezime against the government was heard yesterday morning in the Constitutional Court presided over by Chief Justice Ronny Govinden.

The proceeding was to hear an objection made by the Attorney General’s Office regarding an affidavit brought forward by Ms Onezime’s legal team.

“The AG’s office is claiming that there is a legal requirement that we did not meet when submitting the affidavit, we do not agree with this,” said Basil Hoareau, attorney for the plaintiff.

He also added that the government is now a respondent in this case as the Attorney General cannot present himself as a friend of the court and representative of a party.

“If he is a friend of the court then he must remain neutral but he cannot be neutral if he is representing the interest of a party which is this case the government of Seychelles so we are asking for the government to find a new attorney,” Mr Hoareau said.

Arguments will resume on June 8.
