The English River health centre received two donations yesterday afternoon from Mail Master Pty Ltd and H Savy Insurance (HIS).

Patsy Appoo, owner of Mail Master, donated a new projector while Fatima Woodcock, representing HIS, handed over a new blood pressure machine.

The handover ceremony was attended by Conrad Shamlaye, health policy advisor at the Ministry of Health; May Malcouzane, nurse manager at the English River health centre; staff of the centre and the donors.

Fatma Woodcock said that the blood pressure machine will go towards the diabetic support group. Ms Woodcock, who also suffers from diabetes, said that this machine will contribute towards the wellbeing of patients in that group.

She added that this donation is also a way to show support to the nurses who have helped them in their health journey.

Ms Appoo, a former nurse, noted that she was approached by the nurse in charge last year regarding the need for a projector for the clinic but at the time Covid had just hit and it was not possible.

She added that she will be giving more donations to the health centre in the future.

On behalf of the health ministry, Mr Shamlaye expressed his gratitude to the donors for the donations.

He added that more people should follow this example and start giving back to their health centre in their community.

Lastly he called upon everyone who will be using the projector and the blood pressure machine to use them wisely.

The nurse manager for her part said that the projector will benefit the staff of the hospital in the regular training that the ministry conducts.

She added that it will also benefit the community as well as the health centre regularly conducts health and safety workshops for the public.

“The blood pressure machine will be used exclusively by the patients in our diabetes support group in the various activities that they conduct,” said Ms Malcouzane.
