International School Seychelles’ (ISS) health and safety measures against Covid-19 have been given an added boost with a donation of 30 ultraviolet-C (UVC) lamps which will be used to disinfect the classrooms.

The gift has been generously donated by Bliss Hotel.

The principal of the school, Ashish Bhatnagar, was symbolically handed one of the UVC lamps by the general manager of Bliss Hotel, Mylene Morel, in a brief ceremony on Friday at the school’s campus, Mont Fleuri.

ISS staff have worked tirelessly to implement robust standard operating procedures for the reopening of the school in April. Successfully rolling out its revised health and safety guidelines has been the school’s focus over the last few weeks. Hard work has paid off with strong and effective measures introduced to keep the school community safe during the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as ensuring the highest standards for the delivery of their academic provision. Examples of measures introduced at ISS this term are the use of rapid flow test kits, the implementation of hybrid learning and the introduction of an isolation room.

Elodie Vallantine, head of secondary at ISS, expressed her gratitude to Bliss Hotel for this donation.

“We are excited to be at the forefront of safe practices in Seychelles schools. The generosity from Bliss Hotel during the Covid-19 pandemic has been incredible. We thank them for assisting us with innovative practices at ISS, practices that support health and safety of our community and ultimately the educational experience of our students,” she stated.

Keeping schools free from pathogens has never been more important, but even constantly cleaning the surfaces touched by students and staff can give inconsistent results. The Bacteo Tower Disinfection Lamps provide a fast and effective way to disinfect spaces up to 60sqm big with no cleaning required. The lamps are some of the most powerful and effective UV lamps available, proven to disinfect surfaces from coronaviruses including Covid-19 and over 1,000 other pathogens. They are also extremely safe, equipped with a motion sensor that can detect if anyone enters the room, automatically switching off, meaning none of the students or staff will be subject to UV rays.

Mrs Morel made a few comments about the donation on behalf of Bliss Hotel.

“ISS is a school that we hold dear, existing for over 50 years, with a large number of students and teachers. Bliss Hotel is aiming to help the school to go back to running fully, that is students returning to school full-time, so we took advantage of this new product that will hopefully ensure the safety of the students and teachers in all of their classrooms.”
