Firm donates €10,000 to Covid-19 relief fund

The handover of the donation

Trivium Packaging Seychelles Ltd, the sole company manufacturing steel cans locally, has made a donation of 10,000 Euros towards the Covid-19 relief fund, set up by President Wavel Ramkalawan in early January 2021.

The donation was handed over on Friday last week to the Minister for Finance, Economic Planning and Trade, Naadir Hassan, by the plant manager/director of Trivium, Stephane Albert.

Accepting the donation at Liberty House, Minister Hassan pointed out that managing the Covid-19 pandemic is costly and any donation to cover the cost is very welcomed by the government.

“It is very expensive to manage the Covid-19 pandemic. We have our health workers who are working overtime to manage the health crisis and the equipment are also expensive. On behalf of the government I want to express my appreciation for this donation.”

On his part, Mr Albert said that his staff, who are more than 80% Seychellois, would be very proud of this donation.

“We have been very impressed with how Seychelles has managed the pandemic and as a company we are happy to do our part, by participating in the vaccination programme, so we can continue with production, which we did, as we are considered an essential service.”

Trivium Packaging Seychelles Ltd was established here in 2000. It provides the Indian Ocean Tuna Factory with steel cans for the packaging of its tuna products.

It employs a workforce of 60, among whom only 13 are expatriates.

It produces more than 1 million steel cans a day and more than 300 million a year.

Present at the donation ceremony on Friday was the administration and finance manager at Trivium Packaging Seychelles Ltd, Alexis Thomas.
