Elijah wins best island artist ‒ Seychelles award
Known to many by his stage name Elijah, Stephen Eliza has won another award in his musical career.
On Saturday, he captured the Best Island Artist ‒ Seychelles award of the Mauritius Music Awards 2020 in recognition for his outstanding creativity, talent and achievement in the music industry.
Although he is in Mauritius, Elijah could not attend the ceremony as he is in quarantine.
Speaking to Seychelles NATION, Elijah said: “This award means the power of determination. Patience is the key and you reap what you sow.”
“I thank God for the blessing and for keeping me healthy. I also thank my fans, friends, Darrylthing, my producer Fidel, Otantik Groove group and Solda 3D for their support,” said Elijah.
He added: “I believe the song ‘Coco’ really worked and earned great success in 2020.”
The other nominees for the Best Island Artist ‒ Seychelles were Richie B, Sandra Esparon, Tanya, Mercenary and Jakim.
The Mauritius Music Awards is a distinctive national event created by Elysium. The aim behind this project is to celebrate and reward the achievements of Mauritians and regional islands artists for their prowess in the music industry.
The categories include:
- Album of the year (Awarded to a male/female artist or band, for their exceptional music album release)
- Song of the year (Awarded to a male/female artist or band for the best commercial music hit),
- Best group of the year (Awarded to the most talented music band),
- Best newcomer (Awarded to a top rising artist),
- Best male artist (Awarded to the most talented male artist),
- Best female artist (Awarded to the most talented female artist),
- Best island artist - Reunion (Awarded to the best male/female artist or a band from Reunion),
- Best island artist - Rodrigues (Awarded to the best male/female artist or a band from Rodrigues),
- Best island artist – Seychelles (Awarded to the best male/female artist or a band from Seychelles),
- Best Sega artist (Awarded to the most accomplished Sega artist),
- Best collaboration (Awarded to the best collaboration between two or more artists),
- Best contemporary artist (Awarded to the most talented and original modern-music artist),
- DJ of the year (Awarded to the best local male or female Dj of the Island),
- Best music producer (Awarded to the most innovative music producer),
- Music video of the year (Awarded to the most entertaining and original music video),
- Nightclub of the year (Awarded to the best nightlife venue in Mauritius),
- Music event of the year (Awarded to the best music event 2020 headlining local or international acts),
- Cultural music award (Awarded to the best traditional music),
- Songwriter of the year (Awarded to a composer for their creative lyrics), and
- MMA gold award (Awarded to an artist for their outstanding lifetime achievement in the music industry).
Elijah also told Seychelles NATION that he is on a “vibe mission in Mauritius together with Joseph Sinon” and they will be recording a new album and also perform in shows.
The pair is expected back home early next year.
