Volleyball: Land Marine Cup |12 December 2020

Last three finalists known

The scene for this afternoon’s Land Marine Cup finals has been set with the last three finalists booking their spots, following the last two semifinals played during the week.

In the men’s division one final, defending champions Premium Spikers will face Neo Boyz, while the women’s division two final will feature Juniors and St Francis Sisters.

In the second women’s division two semifinal played on Wednesday, St Francis Sisters eliminated St Louis Bombers on a 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-19) score to secure their final berth for this afternoon’s final against Juniors who beat Neo Girls 3-1 in the other semifinal. The set scores were 25-23, 26-24, 21-25 and 25-19.

Men’s division one defending champions Premium Spikers had to dig deep into their reserves to overcome newcomers Racing Club, who had won the second division title last season, in the semifinal to clinch their title-defence shot against Neo Boyz ‒ a repeat of last year’s final.

Five sets were needed before Premium Spikers could secure a hard-fought 3-2 win. The set scores were 26-24, 21-25, 25-13, 23-25 and 15-10.

In the other semifinal in the same division Neo Boyz beat Ton Neo 3-1 (25-11, 24-26, 25-9, 25-14) to reach the final.

In the other finals on the fixtures for this afternoon at the Palais des Sports, St Louis will meet Anse Royale Boyz in the men’s division two group, while the women’s division one final will be a repeat of last season’s encounter between defending champions Arsu and runners-up Cascade.

As it has been the case throughout the tournament, once again the Seychelles Volleyball Federation (SVF) is urging all teams and players to observe the strict guidelines set in conjunction with the Ministry of Health due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

These include the wearing of face mask when entering match venues, hands sanitising, temperature checks, as well as social distancing of at least one metre at all times.
