Blue economy department conducts sensitisation session at Mont Fleuri secondary school |30 November 2020
The department of the Blue economy conducted a sensitisation session at the Mont Fleuri secondary last week.
Despite the restrictions in place with regard to Covid-19 which has impacted the department’s ability to coordinate school sensitization programmes, Mont Fleuri secondary piloted the session with its S5 cohort. Students were briefed on the governance structure and offered information on the different considerations in promoting the Blue economy concept.
Establishing the engagement of the coming generation is pivotal as was recognised by the head teacher of Mont Fleuri secondary school, Marc Arrisol.
The school motto ‘Steering for success’ was highlighted by the school’s acknowledgement of the need to engage the youth in the Seychelles Blue economy before career pathways were chosen and the team from the department of the Blue economy offered an interactive discussion where students pitched their ideas and received advice on how they could both start engage with existing structures and innovate their own method to promote a more ocean conscious approach to the Seychellois way of life.
The sensitisation sessions will continue into 2021.
