The Ramani Charitable Foundation donated R200,000 worth of hand sanitisers to the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development (MEHRD) yesterday in a short ceremony at Perseverance primary school.

Present was the principal secretary for Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary Education, Odile De Commarmond, representatives from Ramani Group, the head teacher of Perseverance secondary, Marie-May Leon, students and faculty members.

In her address, Ms Leon noted that the new normal brought about by Covid-19 came with a cost which saw their budgets depleting so that the schools could have the resources needed to fight against the virus.

She added that it is by working together that we will able to overcome the disruptive effects of Covid-19.

Ms Leon continued by noting that the donation given attests to the fact.

“It is a fact that hand sanitisers and other equipment needed have been slowly depleting in all schools. In addition with the start of national and international examinations in the coming week new regulations have been added, which include having hand sanitisers in all examination rooms,” said Ms Leon.

The head teacher added that the donation will go a long way to helping schools to keep students, teachers and other members of staff safe.

In his address, the representative of Ramani Charitable Foundation, Rajasimhan Ramani, noted that it was an honour to respond to the call for help from the MEHRD.

“Ramani Foundation felt that it was important to focus on the children through the Ministry of Education and provide help for all primary and secondary schools of which there are twenty thousand plus students to be kept safe,” said Mr Ramani.

He added it is very important that everyone practice good hygiene methods imparted by the department of health.

“On behalf of the Ramani Foundation we are doing our small bits to keep up the fight against the pandemic and we hope that the students use this donation in a responsible manner,” he said.

PS De Commarmond thanked the Ramani Foundation on behalf of the MEHRD and noted that the sanitisers will be very much appreciated by all schools.

She added that negotiations are still underway with Ramani Foundation to supply additional equipment in relation to protecting students, teachers and staff from Covid-19.
