ONE STONE … SFF Cup winners

One Stone win SFF Cup final

One Stone defeated MLUH 5-2 to claim the Seychelles Football Federation (SFF) Cup at the Roche Caïman beach soccer arena on Saturday afternoon.

One Stone had dumped league champions Real Maldives in the semifinals and, led by veteran Alpha Baldé, were slight favourites to overcome the players of coach Steve Hertel in this season-closing match.

MLUH broke the deadlock early in the first third to lead 1-0 but then Malagasy Estel Randrina scored a brace for a 2-1 advantage at the first break.

One Stone stretched their lead with further goals by Ryan Servina and Jeffrey Larue to make it 4-1 at the end of the second period.

MLUH reduced the deficit in the third period through their striker Hansel Coeur de Lion for a 2-4 score but One Stone's Randrina bagged his hat-trick to seal a comfortable 5-2 win to hand the title to his team and their captain Alpha Baldé told Sports NATION that after a slow start, it was an easy victory for his team.

“It was a good game where we fell behind but then got into our rhythm and cruised to a very easy win to ensure we end the season a high note,” Baldé told Sports NATION.

As for MLUH coach Steve Hertel, he felt his team were just unlucky to lose after a good performance.

“We missed too many clear chances to score while our opponents punished us and it was a match which we controlled but we were just out of luck and we are not disappointed,” claimed the MLUH coach.

The cup and medals were presented to the two teams by Seychelles Football Federation (SFF) representative Damien Jean.
