This year was the first time that Children’s Day was not celebrated in schools but the Independent School still commemorated the day by making an appeal of kindness to students and parents to contribute clothes and other items to the children who lost their belongings in the fire that burned through a residential building at Grand Anse Praslin last month.
A small ceremony was held yesterday at the Independent School campus, Union Vale, where the MNA for Grand Anse Praslin, Colin Woodcock, accepted the donation.
“I am very honoured today, on behalf of the students of Independent School to present you with our contributions. I hope that the families will appreciate it,” said Eloise Morain, a student who took part in the collection.
She added that the contribution was to let the students who lost everything know that people are thinking of them during this hard time.
She added she feels joy that she was able to help and encourage others to do the same.
Christian Simeon and Abigail Moustache, two other students who contributed to the donation, echoed what Eloise said by adding that they felt happy to be able to donate and do something nice for the people who had lost their belongings in the tragic house fire.
On his part the MNA thanked the students for their generous donation and added that the families are very grateful to them.
