International School Seychelles

Fedor Solovev receiving the Key Stage 5 Principal Award from Mr Françoise

Graduates excel academically

Fedor Solovev, an aspiring economist who recently sat for 6 AS Levels and 5 A-Levels, has been awarded the Key Stage 5 Principal Award at the International School Seychelles graduation ceremony.

The three-and-a-half-hour long ceremony held at the International Conference Centre (ICCS) on Saturday saw 85 students, 54 from Year 11 who sat for IGCSE examinations and 31 from Year 13, who sat for AS and A-Level examinations graduate in the presence of their families, friends and officials from the school.

Fedor is one of the year 13 students who performed outstandingly well in his 11 exams and prior GCSE exams, who were recognised and awarded on the evening. He was also presented with the year 13 subject award for outstanding performance in Business Studies and Geography.

“I must make a disclaimer, one of the 6 AS exams was a very spontaneous one for English Language for which I had gotten an A star at IGCSE level so I said why not do it and I scored a B. And the other five, I just thought I should devote myself more to developing myself and I thought it really is not that hard as you may think. You just need to love the subjects and understand the consequences of you not giving your best to yourself,” Fedor said.

Having completed his A-Levels, Fedor will be attending university abroad soon to further his studies in economics but he hopes to return to Seychelles one day “to give back as much as Seychelles has given to me”.

Following the presentation of records of achievements at both year 11 and year 13 level, a total of eight special awards were presented during the event as well as the Board of Governors awards and numerous subject awards at year level.

The much anticipated special awards commenced with the presentation of the sports award which went to Nicole Grasselli Barni while Darnell Lozaique snatched the creative arts award. Darya Klymenko clinched the student leadership award and the year 13 English Literature and psychology subject award, while Krishnan Pillay was presented with the head of secondary award.

The head of Key Stage 4 award was presented to Steffie-Ann Monthy, who received numerous other subject awards during the event including one for chemistry and one for physics. Similarly, Heemani Patel was awarded the Key Stage 4 principal award as well as clinching the year 11 subject award for Maths, French and Biology. The final special award was presented to Estelle Bonnelame as the head of sixth form (Year 13). Ms Bonnelame also clinched the year 13 subject award for Biology.

Addressing all students, assistant principal of ISS Terrence Françoise congratulated all the graduates on their achievements and encouraged them to keep pursuing their studies and their dream careers.

“Your perseverance, your dedication and your strength have enabled you to reach this milestone today. Thank you for your participation in different activities and for helping fly the ISS flag high. My wish is that you always carry with you the positive attitude you have managed to nurture during your studies. Of course, there will be challenges ahead. However, when you are determined, you will make the right choices ahead of you,” Mr Françoise noted.

Nineteen subject awards were presented to year 11 graduates for whom Keya Patel was awarded in the subject of Art and Design and English language. Ms Patel was not the only student to receive multiple subject awards as her peer Amanda Ahmade also clinched the award for History and Travel and Tourism.
