Côte d’Or knock out Red Star Defence Forces

Côte d’Or knocked out Red Star Defence Forces on a comfortable 3-0 scoreline in an SFF Cup encounter on Praslin at Stad Amitié on Saturday afternoon.

The two teams cancelled each other out in a balanced first half but defender Jones Joubert broke the deadlock on the hour mark to make it 1-0 for the reigning league champions and Malagasy Kassah added a second in the 80th minute for a 2-0 score before Collin Ether sealed the fate of the army team with a third goal in the 86th minute for a 3-0 final score for the players of coach James Barra.

The two teams will meet again this Saturday at Stad Linite in a league encounter.

Foresters see off Anse Reunion in penalty shootout

Mont Fleuri-based Foresters had to come from behind to floor Anse Reunion 9-8 in a penalty shootout at the l’Union playing field on Saturday afternoon after the score was locked at 1-1 after extra-time.

After a goalless first half, veteran Anse Reunion striker Yelvanny Rose opened the score for the players of coach Basil Hoareau for a 1-0 lead but referee Nelson Emile awarded Foresters a controversial penalty which was easily dispatched by Malagasy midfielder Jean Tigana to make it 1-1.

After normal time and 30 minutes of extra-time, the deadlock was still not broken and so this match had to go to penalties with goal scorer Yelvanny Rose’s vital penalty being stopped by Foresters goalkeeper Kitson Cecile and Kenner Nourrice scoring the crucial spot kick to send Foresters through to the next round of the SFF Cup.

Bel Ombre breeze past Praslin

Championship two side Bel Ombre progressed to the next round of the SFF cup with a 3-0 victory over inner island club Praslin on a 3-0 scoreline at Stad Linite on Saturday afternoon.

Shane Elizabeth gave Bel Ombre a 1-0 lead with a strike in the 34th minute to make it 1-0 and Alex Etienne added a second in the 68th minute whereas Leroy Bacco scored a third in the 75th minute to help his team reach the next stage of the SFF Cup.
