Closure has finally arrived after 49 years

The time to bring the atrocities of our June 5, 1977 coup d’état to a final conclusion has finally arrived after 49 years when our unsuspected nation was subjected to murders, rapes, tortures, disappearances, exiled, their property stollen and gifted to friends and families by the government in power at the time.

In 2017 Barry Laine produced an in-depth study of the global coup d’état occurrences including Seychelles’ coup d’etat which he presented to President Danny Faure who had succeeded President James Michel on October 16, 2016 as President. It was noticeable that during President Faure’s tenure the atrocities stopped. President Danny Faure also took the process of reconciliation in his hands when in August 2020 he met with the Franchette, Morel and Serret families and offered his condolences and promised an enquiry would be set up.
