Region unites to tackle discarded fishing gear

Seychelles is hosting a regional workshop aimed at strengthening efforts to manage abandoned, lost or otherwise discarded fishing gear (ALDFG) and end-of-life fishing gear (EOLFG) across the Western Indian Ocean. The workshop opened yesterday at Laïla Resort and Spa.

The five-day multi-stakeholder event has brought together representatives from Seychelles, Comoros, Madagascar and Mauritius under an FAO-supported project funded by the Government of Japan, which has contributed approximately US $1 million.
