PNQ focuses on commissions and board of inquiry

Leader of the opposition Hon. Bernard Georges yesterday brought a Private Notice Question (PNQ) before the National Assembly, querying the commissions and board of inquiry established by the President.

Hon. Georges asked why several commissions and a board of inquiry had been set up, requesting Minister for Finance, Economic Planning, Trade & Investment Pierre Laporte to inform the Assembly of their costs to government and the payments received by commissioners.

Minister Laporte said five commissions have been established:

• Commission of Inquiry into the Sublease and Development of Assomption Island
• Board of Inquiry into the Importation of Firearms
• Commission of Inquiry into the Montagne Posée Prison Riot
• Commission of Inquiry into the Civil Construction Company Limited (CCCL)
• Commission of Inquiry into the Border Management Service Agreement

“We are projecting a total of R14.83m to be spent on these five commissions. In the 2026 budget, we made an allocation of R5.85m and so we will be coming with a supplementary budget soon for a total budget of R8.98m,” he said.
