Focus on sports, youth and athlete development

The Minister for Youth & Sports, Kalsey Belle, appeared before the National Assembly yesterday to answer questions with notice from members.

The first question came from Hon. Trevor Louise, elected member for Bel Air, who asked about the ministry’s plans to:

• Identify talent in districts without sports clubs.
• Work with existing clubs to encourage athletes showing interest.
• Collaborate with workplaces to promote and support athletes in employment.

Minister Belle explained that talent identification can be carried out at multiple levels – schools, districts, sports clubs, or through inter-school competitions – with key partners contributing to the process.

“However, the identification and development of talent in a systematic way has been neglected for several years,” she said.
