Opposition leader questions transparency over presidential buggy gift

By Mandy Bertin

The National Assembly opened its third term yesterday with a Private Notice Question from the leader of the opposition, Hon. Bernard Georges, concerning a red buggy, registration number S49084, registered on August 17, 2026, in the name of Matthew Antonio Patrick Herminie.

Hon. Georges asked Minister for Transport, Ports & Civil Aviation Veronique Laporte whether the buggy was a gift, who had donated it to State House, its value, and under whose responsibility it currently falls on La Digue.

Minister Laporte confirmed the buggy had been registered in the name of State House and was gifted by Paul Hodoul. She explained that, as it was a gift, she did not have its value at hand. She added that State House had entrusted the buggy to Robert Labiche for security reasons and maintenance.
