ASP Marie details chaotic prison operation
Two witnesses – one testifying in open deliberations and the other in camera – appeared yesterday, July 30, 2026, before the Commission of Inquiry into the Montagne Posée prison events of December 5, 2024. The sessions are being held at the Palais de Justice, Île du Port.
Testimony of Assistant Superintendent Vincent Marie
ASP Vincent Marie, from the Public Order and Tactical Response Unit (POTRU) of the Seychelles Police Force, recounted that on December 5 at 3pm he received an email from prison inspector Ivan Nicolas, stating that an order from Commissioner of Prison Janet Georges had been executed to transfer inmate Stephen Mondon to the isolation cell – a move that could potentially trigger a riot. About 15 minutes later, Inspector Nicolas called to inform him that the situation had escalated, with four prison officers unlawfully detained.
