Former President Ramkalawan urges truth and reform after Montagne Posée riot

Former President Wavel Ramkalawan appeared yesterday before the Commission of Inquiry into the Montagne Posée prison riot of December 5, 2024, to give his testimony.

Mr Ramkalawan said he welcomed the opportunity to assist the commission in its work, stressing the importance of uncovering the truth and preventing similar incidents in the future.

“The tragic incident of December 5–6, 2024, resulted in the deaths of two of our Seychellois brothers – Gerry Mathiot and Francis Ernesta. The first thing I did as President was to extend my condolences to the families and express deep regret on behalf of the state,” he said.
